Satyapal Malik did not get extension of service, Brigadier. Mishra will take over as the Governor of Meghalaya

Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik, whose term ends on October 4, has not been given an extension as President Draupadi Murmu, after Mr. Malik stepped down on Saturday, to Brigadier (Dr.) BD Mishra (Retd.). appointed to the post.

Mr. Malik was in the news for his statements During the farmers’ agitation against the Narendra Modi government, especially against the three agricultural laws that have now been repealed, despite being in the governor’s office.

“The President of India has appointed Brigadier (Dr.) BD Mishra (Retd.), Governor of Arunachal Pradesh to discharge the functions of the Governor of Meghalaya, from the date on which he assumes office, in addition to his own duties. Office of the Governor of Meghalaya, until regular arrangements are made,” a Rashtrapati Bhavan release said.

Mr Malik was first appointed as the Governor of Bihar in September 2017. This was followed, after it was sent to Jammu and Kashmir in August 2018, and was the governor there when the Center revoked the special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 on August 5, 2019.

He was later taken to Meghalaya in 2020.

However, he continued to stir controversy with his statements, which included serious allegations of corruption against leaders of the ruling party while he was the governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

Amid speculation that he might join a political party, particularly the Rashtriya Lok Dal, after his retirement, Mr Malik clarified that he would not join politics but would continue to work for the welfare of farmers.
