World No. 15 Ghosal dominated from start to finish against England’s James Willstrop, winning the bronze playoff 11-6, 11-1, 11-4. This is the second CWG medal for Ghosal, who has won mixed doubles silver along with Dipika Pallikal at the 2018 Gold Coast edition. The 35-year-old Ghosal proved to be too strong for his opponent as he outclassed the Englishman in all aspects of the game, from court coverage to his shots.
Ghosal went down to New Zealand’s Paul Cole 3-0 (11-9 11-4 11-1) in the men’s singles semi-final. Earlier in the day the mixed doubles pair of experienced Joshna Chinappa and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu advanced to the pre-quarterfinals. The highly experienced Chinappa and her partner Sandhu defeated Sri Lanka’s Yeheni Kuruppu and Ravindra Laksiri 8-11, 11-4, 11-3.
The Indians were a bit volatile in the beginning and lost the first game. However, he quickly turned things around and came back strongly to win the next two games without breaking much sweat. Sunayna Kuruvilla also defeated Fung-A-Fat of Guyana in the women’s squash singles plate final. Sunayna defeated her Guyana rival 11-7 13-11 11-2 in what turned out to be an easy victory for the 23-year-old squash player.
