The Supreme Court had on May 17 stayed the Delhi High Court order upholding the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons. Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee To interrogate him in Delhi in a case related to the West Bengal coal scam.

The court, however, allowed him to be questioned in Kolkata after giving prior notice of 24 hours to the ED.

The top court said that it is on the shoulders of West Bengal to ensure that “no hooliganism takes place against the ED team in Kolkata”.

“This will not be tolerated,” Justice Uday Umesh Lalit told the West Bengal government.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had told the ED that they may visit Kolkata and probe a money laundering probe related to an alleged coal scam in West Bengal in which the agency had issued summons to the TMC MP and his wife. Rujira Banerjee.

As the ED noted how the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials were earlier ‘ghera’ (circled) in Kolkata and said that Mr Banerjee is politically “influential”, the top court said that It is possible that Kolkata Police will extend all cooperation and the state will be bound by it, the moment the agency demands 72 hours in advance.

In their petition, Mr Banerjee and his wife have sought an interim unilateral stay on the March 11 order of the Delhi High Court.

The plea has sought a direction to the ED to conduct her probe in Kolkata and exempt Ms. Rujira Banerjee from personal appearance and allow her to appear in the trial court through her counsel.

The High Court had refused to grant relief to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Mr Banerjee and his wife, who had challenged the summons issued to them on September 2021 and sought a direction to the ED to produce them in Delhi. Don’t call to be. Resident of West Bengal.
