The Supreme Court has issued a notice in a writ petition filed by some National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Super Specialty (NEET SS) candidates seeking an order to stay the implementation of the new exam pattern.
Meanwhile, the petition also challenges the National Medical Commission’s proposal to remove MD Radiation Radiotherapy/Oncology as an eligible feeder specialty qualification for the super specialty course of DM Medical Oncology, Live Law reported.
As per the new pattern, there will be 150 questions from the general component of the primary feeder broad specialty subject and from all the sub-specific components of the primary broad specialty subject.
The petition states that the erstwhile pattern has 40 per cent mix of questions from all broad specialties and 60 per cent critical care, providing an equal playing field to the candidates. However, the new pattern forces all the candidates with broad specialization to write a paper featuring 100 percent questions from General Medicine.
The PIL filed through advocate Javedur Rahman said, “The change provides equal opportunity to candidates belonging to different broad specialties as it gives unfair advantage to some and reduces the chances of others to excel in the examination.” is.”
The petitioners termed the new pattern as a complete waste of time, resources and effort put in by the candidates preparing for NEET SS over the years. Arguing for the petitioners before a bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and PS Narasimha, senior advocate Shyam Divan said that the petitioners had earlier approached the authorities to make changes in the postgraduate medical. education Regulation 2021, published by the National Medical Commission but to no avail.
He said that the layers of the changed pattern affect the prospects of pursuing super specialization of MD Radiation Oncologist in DM Medical Oncology and MD Anesthesiologist in DM Critical Care.
The Supreme Court had earlier criticized the central government for bringing in last-minute changes in NEET SS 2021. After this, the government had assured to implement the exam pattern from the new year itself.
