Schools, colleges allowed to reopen in Jharkhand from February 1

Schools, colleges and universities were allowed to reopen in Jharkhand from Tuesday, February 1, as the COVID situation improved, officials said. Schools will reopen for all classes in 17 districts. He said that in the rest of the seven districts – Ranchi, East Singhbhum, Chatra, Deoghar, Seraikela, Simdega and Bokaro which are reporting high number of COVID cases, schools will reopen for classes 9 to 12.

This decision was taken in a meeting of the State Disaster Management Authority on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. According to an official statement, higher education institutions such as colleges, universities and ITIs were also allowed to reopen.

The Jharkhand government had on January 3 rolled back the COVID-related restrictions, closing all educational institutions and tourist places and limiting attendance in offices to 50 per cent. The government allowed gyms and swimming pools to reopen while allowing sporting events in stadiums without spectators.

The government relaxed the limit for gatherings, allowing a maximum of 200 people. Permission was also granted for offline competitive examination, according to the statement.

“All parks and tourist places will remain closed. Restaurants, bars, cinema halls, shops and shopping malls will not have more than 50 per cent capacity at a time. “All shops (except restaurants, bars, drugstores, petrol pumps) will remain open till 8 pm with fairs, processions and exhibitions prohibited.

Jharkhand saw a decline in COVID-19 cases on Monday as 733 people tested positive, 305 less than the previous day. The toll stood at 5,300 with no fresh deaths reported in the last 24 hours. State capital Ranchi recorded the highest number of 206 new infections, followed by East Singhbhum with 172 cases. Jharkhand now has 6,495 active cases.
