Schools in Goa to reopen for physical classes from February 21 as Covid cases drop

In view of the declining Covid-19 cases in the state, the Goa government on Thursday announced the re-opening of physical classes for students of classes 1 to 12 from Monday. This order is applicable to all educational institutions.

The official order said, “As the COVID-19 cases are decreasing day by day in the State, it has been decided by the Competent Authority to conduct Class I to Class XII from 21st February, following the COVID-19 All educational institutions should be reopened till date. Behavior and attached as per SOP guidelines.”

Schools that only partially reopened at the end of last year after a drop in cases for students of higher classes were closed after a recurrence of cases due to the omicron wave of the virus, Hindustan Times Reported.

With the exception of primary and middle schools, which are not yet open for students to attend classes as they were closed at the start of the pandemic in March 2020 and instead schools have been asked to conduct online classes for students was said.

Meanwhile, only yesterday, Goa reported 103 new coronavirus positive cases and three deaths linked to the infection, the state health department said. Moreover, the total caseload reached 2,44,508 while the death toll rose to 3,785, it said. With the recovery of 481 patients during the day, the number of recoveries increased to 2,39,496. There are 1,227 active cases in the state.

“A total of 1,801 tests were conducted on Thursday, taking the total number of tests in the coastal state to 18,61,114,” an official said. Goa’s COVID-19 figures are as follows: positive cases 2,44,508, new cases 103, death toll 3,785, cured 2,39,496, active cases 1,227, samples tested so far 18,61,114.
