Scientists Slam Jordan Peterson and Joe Rogan for Paddling Lies About Climate Crisis

Jordan Peterson scoffed at “climate types” and described them as people who “generally suggest that climate is about everything.”

In a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, which aired earlier this month, both were heard making false and generalized claims that the modeling scientists use to project climate change and its effects are flawed.

Canadian clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson and American podcaster Joe Rogan are embroiled in another controversy following their recent comments on climate change. In a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, which aired earlier this month, both were heard making false and generalized claims that the modeling scientists use to project climate change and its effects are flawed. Much to the anger of climate scientists, Peterson said, “There’s no such thing as climate, right?” Canadian psychologists known for denigrating the feminist movement scoffed at “climate types” and described them as people who “generally suggest that climate is about everything.” Peterson said, “But your models are not based on everything. Your models are based on a certain number of variables. So that means you have reduced the variables, which are everything, in that set.” But how did you decide which set of variables to include in the equation if that’s about everything?” Peterson expanded his argument as he claimed without evidence that more people die each year from solar energy than from nuclear explosions because he thinks people would fall off roofs trying to install the technology. Huh.

Rogan, the podcast’s host, was not seen arguing with Peterson’s argument during the episode. However, actual scientists were quite concerned at the absurdity displayed by Peterson and Rogan. Michael E. Mann, a climate scientist at Pennsylvania State University, told CNN, “It would seem—comic nihilism would be ridiculous if it weren’t so dangerous.” Describing Peterson’s comments as “absurd and false,” Mann told CNN that a similar “anti-science” information was spread by Peterson with Rogan about COVID-19, which would likely lead to fatalities. Giving facts about the climate crisis, Mann said that more people die from extremely dangerous and deadly weather extremes if they fail to act on the climate crisis. “The propaganda of misinformation about climate change is in some ways even more dangerous,” Mann said. Science Twitter was also unhappy with Peterson’s latest problematic on such a serious issue. One of the users tweeted, “Holy moly. I don’t think I can do that. The first word from Peterson’s mouth in the Joe Rogan interview is complete self-parody. I can’t even do that.” But drown.”

Another user tweeted, “A classic example of Jordan Peterson asking a question that has some kind of deep insight, assuming there is no answer, and assuming that the answer is no. Pretending to be intelligent is ignorance.”
