During the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, Israel has exchanged thousands of Palestinian prisoners and bodies for a few dozen Israeli prisoners and bodies, and sometimes granted amnesty to others.
Mr Zubaidi, best known among the fugitives, was released in an amnesty in 2007. Mr. Zubaidi was a resident of Jenin, a town in the northern West Bank. a prominent extremist leader During the 2000s in the Second Intifada, or insurgency, and became one of Israel’s most wanted fugitives. About 1,000 Israelis were killed during the uprising and about 3,000 Palestinians – including Mr Zubaidi, his mother and brother said.
After being granted a clemency, he renounced violence and turned to political theatre, which he portrayed as cultural resistance to the Israeli occupation. he later became A leader of the Freedom Theater In Janine.
But in 2011, Israeli news media reported that his apology was revoked, and in 2012 he was detained for several months by the Palestinian Authority.
Mr Zubaidi was arrested again in 2019 by Israeli authorities, who accused him of returning to extremism and involvement in recent West Bank violence, including attempted murder. He was kept in Gilboa prison until his trial was decided.
