SEBI issues charter for investors

SEBI has come out with a charter to make investors aware of the securities market

Markets regulator SEBI on Wednesday came out with an investor charter aimed at protecting the interest of investors in the securities market.

The vision of the Investor Charter is to “protect the interests of investors by enabling them to understand the risks involved and invest in a fair, transparent, safe market and avail services in a timely and efficient manner”.

The rights include seeking fair and equitable treatment, and expecting redressal of investor grievances filed in the SCORES Portal in a time bound manner.

“This also includes access to quality services from SEBI-accredited market infrastructure institutions and SEBI-registered intermediaries, regulated entities and asset management companies,” the charter said.

SEBI has also laid down do’s and don’ts for the investors.

“Redressal of investor grievances is an important step towards investor protection,” the regulator said.

SEBI said that it now publishes a status report regarding settlement of investor complaints received on the SCORES portal on a monthly basis.

The regulator said, “A mechanism has been put in place whereby all intermediaries/entities regulated by SEBI will be given the average time taken for redressal of investor complaints received by them on their respective websites in the format specified by SEBI, starting from January 2022.” will have to be disclosed.”

SEBI said it has also established an alternative dispute redressal mechanism for complaints against brokers, depository participants at the level of stock exchanges and depositories.
