The second list does not include the name of former chief minister Jagadish Shettar, who met BJP president JP Nadda to stake claim to contest from his Hubballi-Dharwad Central constituency.
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday night released its second list of 23 candidates for the upcoming Karnataka assembly elections, denying tickets to four sitting MLAs from the state. Nagaraja Chabbi, a former Congress leader and a close aide of state Congress chief DK Shivakumar, will contest on a BJP ticket from Kalaghatgi constituency, which is currently represented by party MLA Nimbannavar Channappa Mallappa.
The remaining 12 seats in the 224-member state assembly are yet to be announced by the party, including controversial ones – Mahadevapura, Shivamogga City, and Hubballi Dharwad Central – where the BJP wants to replace senior leaders to “make way”. for others”.
The second list does not include the name of six-time MLA and former chief minister Jagadish Shettar, who met BJP president JP Nadda to stake claim to contest from his Hubballi-Dharwad Central constituency.
There are two women in the second list of BJP candidates to contest the elections.
The BJP has not given ticket to sitting MLA Nehru Olekar from Haveri and has fielded Gavi Siddappa in his place. Similarly, Shivkumar has been given ticket from Channagiri seat. Madal Virupakshappa, facing corruption charges, and his son were also denied tickets.
Sitting MLA Sukumar Shetty and MP Kumaraswamy have also not been given tickets from their Bandur and Mudigere seats respectively. Deepak Doddaiah will contest from Mudigere seat.
Kumaraswamy is facing opposition from a section of local BJP workers who claimed that he was being targeted for being a Dalit. Last month, the BJP had to cancel former chief minister BS Yediyurappa’s rally following a protest by a group of BJP workers demanding that Kumaraswamy be denied ticket from Mudigere seat.
SC candidate Ashwini Sampangi is in the fray as the BJP candidate from Kolar Gold Fields (KGF).
The BJP on Tuesday declared the names of its candidates for 189 seats. Its aim is to retain power in the southern state by securing a majority in the 224-seat assembly.
The process of filing nominations will start from April 13 and continue till April 20.
