Udupi Municipal Council had given permission to display the banner for three days (Representational)
Mangaluru:
Security has been beefed up in Udupi in the wake of communal tension in neighboring Shivamogga district over objections by the Popular Front of India (PFI) against Veer Savarkar’s paintings in that city.
Police have made tight security arrangements near Brahmagiri circle in Udupi city where a banner of Savarkar has been displayed as part of 75th anniversary of independence.
The banner depicts ‘Hindu Rashtra’ along with Veer Savarkar and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, described as revolutionaries who earned independence for India.
PFI had given a memorandum to the police to remove the banner from the circle. The Udupi Municipal Council had given permission to display the banner for three days as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
