A day after PM Modi’s security breach in Punjab, sources said on Thursday that the state DGP had asked the prime minister’s convoy to return, saying the crowd was aggressive and frenzied. Hence, the SPG (Special Protection Group) which is part of the convoy consistently followed the instructions of the DGP.
On Wednesday, a major security lapse was noticed in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy when he was on his way to Ferozepur to address an election rally and lay the foundation stone for various development projects worth Rs 42,000 crore, including the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway. Were.
The Prime Minister was to board a helicopter from Bathinda airport, however, due to bad weather and last minute changes, he was going to Firozpur by road.
On their way to Ferozepur, there was a major lapse in their security when a group of protesters blocked the highway, forcing PM Modi’s convoy to wait for 15-20 minutes. Eventually the Prime Minister had to return to the Bathinda airport and postpone his Firozpur program.
Since yesterday’s security breach, the Punjab government has been on the backfoot for failing to provide security to the Prime Minister.
On reaching Bathinda, PM Modi told officials at the airport, “Thank your CM, I came back alive till Bathinda airport.” (Thanks to your CM that I returned to Bathinda airport alive).
The BJP also hit out at the Punjab government, terming it a conspiracy to target the prime minister and alleged that it was in collusion with the protesters.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi addressed a press conference later that day and said it was wrong to say that PM Modi’s life was in danger. “I respect the prime minister and regret that he had to return,” he said.

PM Modi on Thursday briefed President Ram Nath Kovind about the security breach preventing his visit to Punjab and the government indicated that some “big and tough decisions” will be taken after the Union Home Ministry gathers information.
Channi claimed that what happened in Ferozepur was not a security threat, but a “gimmick” aimed at imposing President’s rule in the state.
The Supreme Court also took note of the matter and the Punjab government announced a two-member committee to investigate the matter, as the BJP and Congress continued to dispute over it.
BJP leaders offered prayers in temples in different parts of the country for the long life of the PM. He also posted his best wishes and prayers for Modi on Twitter using the hashtag “LongLivePMModi”.
