This weekend, meet handloom weavers, organic farmers, seed savers, craftsmen and food product manufacturers from different parts of the country as they celebrate sustainability at the three-day sustainability festival organized by the India Handmade Collective (IHMC), Safe Food Alliance. If you are looking for hand woven fabrics with natural colour, you can find variety in festival be it in the form of sarees, dhotis, towels, dupatta, yardage or home linen. “The festival will also celebrate the National Handloom Day, which falls on August 7,” says Anantha Sayanan, founder, IMHC and OFM. “And to mark the 75th year of independence, we are organizing spinning and natural dye workshops at the venue,” he says.. A monthly series, Conversing Gandhi, will also be launched on the second day of the event. The title of the inaugural address is Nonviolent Social Conditions and Conflict Resolution.

Interestingly, a nursery will also be set up at the venue. The seed bank and seed exchange program for terrace garden enthusiasts will run on all three days. Medicinal herbs and various plants will be available in the nursery. “Craftsmen will display coconut shell crafts, terracotta artifacts and palm baskets. Organic grocery and food products will also be available. The food stalls will sell traditional food made from organic products and the main attraction will be handmade organic chocolates,’ says Sayanan.

The inauguration ceremony will be attended by Tamil Nadu Environment Minister Siva V Myanathan, actor Revathi, fashion designer Poornima Ramaswamy and President of Crafts Council of India Geeta Ram. ,
