Senior royals gather to honor Prince Philip at memorial – Times of India

LONDON: Senior royals from around the world are gathering for a memorial service for the Prince on Tuesday Philip At Westminster Abbey that will include hymns and other touches removed from his funeral last year because of the pandemic.
Queen Elizabeth II Will attend a service of thanksgiving, Buckingham Palace said. The 95-year-old monarch was deeply involved in planning the event, but has experienced unspecified mobility issues in recent weeks and her attendance at the event was unclear.
Elizabeth, who had recently recovered from Covid-19, did not attend a Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey earlier this month, but continued to attend other scheduled events, including in-person spectators.
About 1,800 family members and guests have been invited to the memorial. Only 30 people attended last year’s funeral, which was conducted under strict COVID-19 lockdown rules, after which the Queen was forced to sit alone wearing a black mask as she mourned the loss of her husband , which he called his rock.
Philip died on 9 April at the age of 99.
Tuesday’s service will feature the hymn “Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer”, which fulfills one of Philip’s funeral wishes that was not performed due to the ban on singing.
Youth attending events run by the Prince’s Duke of Edinburgh charities and youth cadet associations will line the abbey’s steps to greet guests for the service.
Britain’s royal family will be involved, which will include around 30 foreign royals Prince Albert of Monaco, Denmark queen margretheKing Herald and queen sonja of Norway, and King Felipe VI and queen letizia from Spain.
Philip’s wider family and friends are also expected to attend, along with 500 delegates from charities and other groups supporting him.
