Illing-Junior netted 55 minutes into his first start in Italy’s top-flight before striker Dusan Vlahovic found the back of the net deep in the second half to make it 2-0 as Juventus picked up three points on the road.

Juventus moved into second place in Serie A on Sunday after a 2-0 win over fellow Champions League chasers Atalanta, whose fans racially abused Juve goalkeeper Dusan Vlahovic.

England youth international Illing-Junior scored on 55 minutes on his first start in Italy’s top flight, before Vlahovic completed the job in stoppage time.

He then booked a section of the home supporters for their troubles after they were targeted with racist chants.

Juve are two points ahead of Lazio, who were beaten at AC Milan on Saturday, and in their current state have a good chance of making it to next season’s Champions League.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side are five points ahead of fifth-placed Milan but their hopes of qualifying for Europe’s top club competition hinge on an Italian football federation (FIGC) ruling over alleged illegal transfer activity.

Last month Italy’s highest sports court overturned a 15-point penalty imposed on Juve in January by the FIGC’s appeals tribunal, which has to hand down a new ruling.

Juve can also qualify for the Champions League through the Europa League, with their semi-final first leg against Sevilla coming to Turin on Thursday.

Later on Sunday, Napoli make their first appearance in front of their home fans since becoming Italian champions for the first time since 1990 when they host Fiorentina.
