In view of the tension in Belagavi, the jurisdictional police have been directed to increase vigil in other parts of the city and provide security cover to the idols.
On December 19, Bengaluru city police arrested seven people in connection with the vandalization of a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji in Bashyam circle. The teams made the arrest after analyzing the CCTV footage and questioning some miscreants, who had allegedly circulated video clips of the incident on social media.
“Investigation is on,” a police officer said, but did not give further details. On the morning of December 17, a group of people had gathered in front of the statue, raising slogans against MES. They threw ink on the idol and fled.
