JERUSALEM: Seven people were injured, two of them in critical condition, after a shooter opened fire on a bus in the city JerusalemOld City, Israeli police and medics said early Sunday.
Emergency Medical Services of Israel, Magan David Adom (mda), called the incident a “terrorist attack in the old city”.
An AFP reporter said security had been beefed up around the site, not far from the Western Wall of Jerusalem, the holiest Jewish shrine.
Police have started a search for the shooter who fled after the attack in the early hours.
Police said, “Police received information about firing in a bus… Police have cordoned off the spot and are looking for a suspect.”
MDA spokesperson Zaki Heller Said that six men and one woman were injured in the attack, all seven were “fully conscious”.
MDA paramedics said they provided life-saving treatment to people with gunshot wounds, including those on the bus and in the King David’s Tomb parking area.
All the victims were taken to nearby hospitals.
“We were on the scene very quickly,” senior EMT Nehemiah Katz and paramedic David Trachtenberg said in a statement. “At Male Hashalom St. we saw a passenger bus parked in the middle of the road, passers-by calling us to treat two men in their 30s who were wounded in the bus.”

“I was coming from the Western Wall. The bus was full of passengers,” he told reporters in front of his bullet-proof vehicle.
“I stopped at the station at David’s Tomb. At this point, the shooting started. I see two people falling outside, two bleeding inside. Everyone panicked.”
