A gang of seven robbers, who used to target houses near national highways, have been arrested in Acharapakkam police station area of Chengalpattu district.
On January 12, Jagannathan of Kadamalaiputhur, near Madurantakam, filed a police complaint that a masked gang barged into his house at night and pointed knives at him. By tying them, the gang took away gold and silver items from the house.
Three special teams, led by Madurantakam Deputy Superintendent of Police Bharat, were formed to trace the suspects. The teams analyzed 30 criminals who had similar modus operandi in the past.
Police arrested Kesavan, Prabhu, Sasikumar, Mohammed Abdullah, Arul Murugan, Raja from Salem and Sathish Kumar from Kerala. Inquiries revealed that they were involved in similar crimes in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Police have recovered 12 gold, 10 mobile phones, knives, two wheelers and a car from them.
