Seven suspended for burial of dead body in Srikalahasti

Srikalahasteeswara Swamy Devasthanam on Monday ordered the suspension of seven employees following an uproar over the burial of a dead body near a sub-temple in the holy Bharadwaja Teertham area.

The burial of the unidentified body triggered a controversy in the city, following which the temple executive officer D. Peddi Raju lodged a complaint with the Srikalahasti police, who questioned security staff, priests and residents of the area.

Although the identity of the deceased person has not been disclosed, the temple authorities, on their part, conducted an internal inquiry to establish accountability on the basis of dereliction of duty. As a result, seven persons including an assistant executive officer, security in-charge, four security guards and a priest were suspended with immediate effect.

Mr. Peddi Raju announced that the security apparatus would be strengthened and CCTV cameras would soon be installed to monitor the movement of strangers around the temple and sub-temples.
