Shakira sentenced to 8 years in Spain for tax fraud

The court will now have to decide on conducting the trial and fixing the date.

Barcelona:

Prosecutors in Barcelona said on Friday they would seek a prison sentence of more than eight years against global music superstar Shakira after she rejected a petition on tax fraud charges.

The court will now have to decide on conducting the trial and fixing the date. Prosecutors accused the 45-year-old “Hips Don’t Lie” songwriter of defrauding the Spanish tax office by 14.5 million euros ($14.7 million) on income earned between 2012 and 2014.
