The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation will provide its services through this route from Tuesday. The Transport Minister said that the government officials have been directed to complete the remaining works in a time bound manner.

There was some damage to the road during the 2017 Ockhi cyclone. In the following months, more damage was reported. During May last year, a large section of the road had cracked, rendering the road unusable. Mr Riyas went to Shangmugham to assess the damage in the same month.

Since the road connects to the airport and due to the importance of Shanghmugham as a favorite tourist destination, the Public Works Department (PWD) gave priority to its repair. It was also decided that the work should be completed by March 15 this year and the work calendar has been prepared.
