Sensex Today: Domestic markets opened in a positive zone on Thursday amid recovery in global markets. The S&P BSE Sensex closed at 61,437, up 370 points or 0.61 per cent, while the Nifty 50 was up 106 points at 18,300.
Most Sensex stocks were in the green led by Bharti Airtel, Tata Steel, Sun Pharma, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank and Kotak Bank. There were only 4 stocks in the red – NTPC, Maruti Suzuki, IndusInd Bank and L&T.
In the broader markets, the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices also advanced along with the benchmark indices as they gained 0.42 per cent each. In sectoral terms, IT, realty, metals and PSBs led the rally.
In individual stocks, Reliance Industries shares rose 0.5 per cent after retail arm Reliance Retail acquired entire stake in Metro Cash & Carry India 2,850 crore in Rs.

Globally, US stock markets gained overnight on strong quarterly results and improved investor sentiment. All of Wall Street’s major indices – the Dow Jones, Nasdaq Composite and the S&P 500 – closed above 1 per cent.
Meanwhile, markets in Asia-Pacific were mixed this morning as the Nikkei 225, Topix, Kospi and Shanghai Composite indices fell up to 0.6 per cent. The S&P 200 and Hang Seng indices, however, rose up to one per cent each.
In the commodities market, Brent crude and WTI crude prices rose 0.3 per cent to USD 82 per barrel and USD 78 per barrel, respectively, due to a decline in US crude inventories.
