Sensex Today: The stock market opened on a dull note on Monday, the first trading day of the calendar year 2023.
Sensex Today: Equity markets opened on a subdued note on Monday, the first trading day of calendar year 2023, as foreign investors were in a holiday mood. Markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, US and UK are closed today.
The S&P BSE Sensex was up 87 points or 0.14 per cent at 60,928, while the Nifty 50 was up 39 points or 0.21 per cent at 18,144.
In the broader markets, the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gained 0.3 per cent and 0.4 per cent, respectively.
The market was supported by metal and financial stocks, while pharma packs remained underweight.
Individually, Tata Motors shares rose 1 per cent after the company reported a 10 per cent rise in domestic December sales at 72,997 units as compared to 66,307 units sold last year.
Meanwhile, Ashok Leyland’s sales grew by 1.6 per cent as the company’s domestic sales grew by 49 per cent to 1,112 units.
