Similar academic calendar for J&K receives mixed response from parents, teachers

Like other parts of the country, now in Kashmir, the 10th and 12th examinations will be held in March. In this regard, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has issued an order for a uniform academic calendar. However, these exams were earlier held in October and November in Kashmir.

school education The department issued the order on Wednesday. It said a committee was constituted in April and following the recommendations of the committee, it was decided that the board exams would also be conducted in Kashmir in March. However, the government has not issued any order for the students up to class 9. There are many questions in this regard. On one hand academic experts are calling it a wrong decision, while on the other hand the Private School Association says that service providers have not been taken on board.
News 18 spoke to some students and took their opinion on the new order.

Class 10 students seemed satisfied with this decision. They say that now they will get enough time to prepare for the exam and those who used to sit at home in winter after the exam will now prepare for the exam during that time.
Muzamil, a class 10 student, says, “It is a very good decision and now we will prepare well for the exam, however in winters we used to wait for the results sitting at home and now it will not happen.” We will take exams in March and prepare well in winters.”

There, Class 12 students expressed apprehension and said that the goal for them is that they used to prepare for NEET and other entrance exams after 12th, but now they will get less time to prepare for the entrance exam.

On the other hand, GN War, president of the Private School Association, found this decision incomplete. He said the government did not take the stakeholders on board. He said that the government has given the decision, but the people who have to implement the decision have not been kept in the committee. Since there will be a shortage of power and other facilities, the government should have taken the stakeholders along so that a good decision could be taken.” In the March season, there will be a lot of trouble in Kashmir due to the weather.

Meanwhile, academic experts also termed the decision as wrong for the future of the students. He says that if students appear for exams in March, they will sit at home for the whole year, as it is very cold in Kashmir and stay at home for all three months. Also, when children will appear for exams in March and then again at home by June waiting for results, when will they study? He said the government needs to reconsider the decision so that the education of students in Kashmir is not adversely affected.

When News18 spoke to Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary, School Education Department, Government, he said that this decision has been taken for the bright future of the children. He said that in winter the teachers will educate the children through digital platform as all have been trained digitally during the period of covid. There will be uniformity and examinations will be held simultaneously. Students will also get time and evaluation will increase. He further said that students will also get time for more than two hundred days of classroom study. When asked about the opinion of the people, he replied, “Those who are not happy with the decisions of the government will protest and it is their job to do so, and if they think about the right future for their children.” So they will oppose it, they will not protest.”
