Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu advanced to the women’s singles final of the Syed Modi International badminton tournament after her fifth-seeded Russian rival Evgenia Kosetskaya made a comeback in the semi-finals here on Saturday.

Top seed Sindhu won the first game easily 21-11, before Kosetskaya clinched the second women’s singles semi-final match.

Former world champion Sindhu will take on compatriot Malvika Bansod on Sunday. Malvika defeated another Indian, Anupama Upadhyay, 19-21, 21-19, 21-7 in a three-game match.

It was expected to be an easy outing for Sindhu in terms of form, world rankings as well as face-to-face records. Ranked seventh in the BWF rankings, Sindhu had beaten world number 28 Kosetskaya twice before Saturday’s bout, and the Indian ace once again came on top to extend her dominant record against the Russian.
