New Delhi: After the investigation by the SIT, a war of words has started between the Congress and the BJP. 2002 Gujarat Riots The court said that at the behest of the late Congress leader, a conspiracy was hatched to tarnish the image of the state and Narendra Modi. Ahmed Patel,
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said Patel was actually a front for Sonia Gandhi, who conspired and financed the political career of the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
The Congress denied the allegation, targeting PM Modi directly. “The prime minister’s machine of political vendetta clearly does not spare even the dead who were his political opponents,” party spokesperson Jairam Ramesh said in a statement. It accused the SIT of acting on the orders of its “political masters”.
The SIT affidavit also accused activist Teesta Setalvad of colluding with the Congress to implicate Modi and the BJP.
It said, “Setalvad held a meeting with Ahmed Patel and received Rs 5 lakh in the first instance. Two days later, they met at the Circuit House in Shahibagh, Ahmedabad, where he received Rs 25 lakh more than Patel.” The SIT also claimed that Setalvad and others later met other Congress political leaders to “implicate senior leaders of the BJP government in Gujarat”.
Referring to the SIT’s affidavit, BJP’s Patra said the Congress keeps various denials ready and issues them by changing the dates.
“We want Sonia Gandhi to hold a press conference and address the nation as to why she is conspiring against Modi,” he said.
Patra claimed that he hatched a conspiracy to defame Gujarat and defame his son Rahul Gandhi with a view to harm him and the BJP.
Patra mentioned that Setalvad, who spearheaded the Gujarat riots cases, was given the Padma Shri and was also made a member of the National Advisory Council when the Congress-led UPA was in power. He alleged that Sonia Gandhi was behind this as she was happy with her work.
“Patel is just a name. The driving force behind this conspiracy was Sonia Gandhi,” he claimed.
Defending Patel, the Congress claimed that the allegations against him were part of Modi’s “systematic strategy to absolve itself of any responsibility for the communal massacre” when he was the chief minister.
Jairam Ramesh’s statement also referred to former Prime Minister Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s famous ‘Rajdharma’ remark, “It was his (Modi’s) reluctance and inability to control this massacre that led to the then Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.” Inspired Bihari Vajpayee to remind the Prime Minister. His ministers Rajdharma:,” it said.
