A special court in Mizoram’s capital Aizawl on Wednesday sentenced six people, including the younger brother of Mizoram’s Zoramthanga, to one year imprisonment in a corruption case.

These six people were convicted by Special Court (Prevention of Corruption Act) judge HTC Lalinchhana Sarkar for falsely implicating them through fake land passes and authorization letters tailor-made.
An amount of more than two crore rupees was given for the land submerged due to the construction of 60 inscription hydroelectric project on Tuiriyal river near Saipum village of Cobalsib district on the Assam border.
The convicts include C Vanlalchuana, Sitanga, C Rokhumi, Lalduhama and PC Lalthajovi from Aizawl and Lalravana from Champhai town.

These documents have been claimed liable under sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code.
In this case, however, the court acquitted two other brokers, Aizawl district’s assistant deputy commissioner H Liyanzela and Saipum gram panchayat ex-president Lalrinsanga, as the probe agencies did not produce incriminating evidence against them.
