The ‘Skill Hub Initiative’ program was formally launched in Jammu and Kashmir under the Samagra Shiksha Project here on Saturday, an official said. Project Director – Holistic Education, Deep Raj Kanethia said that 40 schools have been identified in the Union Territory and designated as ‘Skill Hubs’, but initially the program will be implemented as a pilot project in nine government schools. being started in.

The ‘Skill Hub Initiative’ is part of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 3.0 and was launched across the country on January 1. It will be implemented through National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

Envisioned by the Union Ministries of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the objective of the scheme is to provide NSDC certified skill courses for school children and youth and dropouts. It aims to prepare them for placement as well as self-entrepreneurship. The scheme will also be supported by the State Skill Development Missions.

Kanethia said that the nine schools selected under the pilot project would be trained in NSDC-affiliated courses and eventually the program would be extended to other schools as well. He said that the government schools which have been designated as ‘skill hubs’ are located in different districts including Reasi, Budgam, Anantnag, Poonch, Srinagar, Kishtwar, Pulwama and Jammu. Kanethia said that the vocational trainers posted in these schools did extensive counseling of the candidates before enrolling in the courses certified by their efforts. He said that the training has been started in all the schools simultaneously.
