Skoda Auto India to triple sales in 2022; 70,000 units target

While the Kushaq and Slavia will be the top sellers, other cars will make a significant contribution to this number.

Skoda Auto India has stepped up its aggression in the Indian market. The company is focusing on increasing sales in the country and under the Bharat 2.0 strategy, more products are coming to the country which will see a higher level of localisation. While this process has already started in 2020, Kushak was a key figure in setting the compact SUV wheels in motion. The second car to go on sale for the company is the Slavia compact sedan and it will be launched in March this year. Of course, there is another car that will be launched on January 10, 2022 and that is the Kodiaq. And with all these cars apart from the Superb and Octavia, Skoda Auto India plans to triple its sales in 2022. The company has set a target of 70,000 units for the next year.

Slavia will be launched in March this year

While the Kushaq and Slavia will be the top sellers, other cars will make a significant contribution to this number. Zack Hollis, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India, said while answering carandbike’s query regarding the allocation of sales from the portfolio. “We will probably sell 5000 units from our Aurangabad plant (where Octavia, Superb and Kodiaq are made) and the balance amount will come from Kushak and Slavia. Now Kushak will have a full year to sell, so we are 2000 to 3000 units per month Even when it comes to Slavia we are expecting to sell 2000 to 3000 units per month and this will give us a boost in sales.”

While this is an ambitious target for Skoda Auto India, there is another good reason to achieve it. Hollis further noted, “This (achieving the target) will bring us into one of the top ten markets for Skoda worldwide. Skoda India will contribute greatly to the overall growth strategy of Skoda Worldwide.”

With the launch of the Slavia, Skoda Auto India wants to capture the compact sedan market in the country and be at the forefront of that segment as well.
