Small cellar found at a temple near Kumbakonam

A small cellar at a Savaite temple at Patteeswaram near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district was found during the renovation of the temple.

According to sources, the cellar was noticed a few days ago while the renovation work was carried out in the temple in view of the proposed consecration of the temple after 17 years.

The cellar was found while the granite stones on the north inner circumambulatory corridor of Sri Ramalingaswamy temple, reportedly constructed 1,000 years ago in memory of Panchavanmadevi of Chola Dynasty, were lifted for relaying. Subsequently, the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Department officials visited the temple and inspected the cellar.
