Sona Comstar ties up with Anydim Inc to produce magnetless EV motors – Times of India

motor vehicle technology company, Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd. ,sona comstar) has announced a partnership with anedim Inc. Hamilton, Ontario, Canada – A technology company that develops Switched Reluctance Motors (SRM), Electric Propulsion and Electrified Powertrains.
Under the agreement, the two companies will develop the SRM Drive platform for Indian road and usage conditions, providing 10kW or more power to 3-wheeler electric vehicles and 2-wheeler high-performance motorcycles and 20kW to 4-wheeler cargo delivery electric vehicles. Or will target more power. ,
In addition, Enedym will license its SRM technologies to Sona Comstar to manufacture drive motors, controllers and drivetrains for applications specifically targeted in India. Serial production of these systems is expected to begin in 2023.
Enedym claims that it has developed new families of SRMs with improved efficiency, power density and performance for various applications. By eliminating permanent magnets, Enedym’s SRM has the potential to significantly reduce the cost of propulsion motors.
Electric three-wheelers are leading the transition to EVs in India, as the segment accounted for over 14% of total three-wheeler sales in FY11. The catalyst for this rapid adoption is the expansion of supply chain infrastructure by eCommerce and logistics providers, coupled with growth in eCommerce and consumer demand.
Given low operating costs and growth in eCommerce, the shift towards sustainable mobility will continue to be first- and last-mile, thus creating a potentially large market for electric drivetrains.
Commenting on the partnership, Kiran M Deshmukh, Group CTO, Sona Comstar, said, “Anydim’s novel Switched Reluctance Motors with Advanced Acoustic Noise Control enables us to offer high-efficiency and high-performance magnet-less motors to our discerning customers. will help.”
Dr Ali Emdi, Founder, President and CEO of Enedym commented, “This collaboration will effectively bridge the gap between Enedym supplying next generation SRM motor technologies that do not require any rare earth metals, Through advanced digitization, costs are significantly reduced, and class is achieved. Leading performance with a reliable and highly capable partner.”
