Sonali Phogat death: Haryana CM demands CBI probe, writes letter to Goa

After the meeting, Sonali Phogat’s sister Rupesh said, “CM Khattar assured us that there will be a CBI inquiry and we will get justice. Everything will come out. It can be seen in the video that this was done forcibly. He told me that something wrong was being done to him after which his phone got switched off.”

A day after the arrest of two accused in the Sonali Phogat murder case, a Goa court has sent them to 10-day police custody. The accused pair – Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh (Sonali PhogatK’s personal assistant and his friend, respectively) – were produced in Mapusa city court by Anjuna police on Saturday. The court sent him to 10-day police custody.

Apart from this, Goa Police also said on Saturday that Phogat was given a recreational drug by Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh. Police said they had given methamphetamine to late actor-turned-politician Sonali Phogat.

Police had said on Friday that Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh, while partying at Curlies restaurant on the intervening night of August 22 and 23, allegedly mixed some “obnoxious substance” in water and forced Sonali Phogat to drink it.

According to a top police officer, “economic interest” could be the driving force behind the alleged murder phogat, Police said the two were also arrested “to avoid the possibility of destroying evidence and influencing witnesses”.

On 23 August, Phogat – a Bigg Boss 14 contestant – was declared brought dead at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Anjuna, Goa. Initially, police suspected that he died of a suspected heart attack.

Sonali Phogat, who hails from Haryana, had contested the last Haryana Assembly elections from Adampur constituency on a BJP ticket against Kuldeep Bishnoi. She also appeared in the reality show ‘Bigg Boss’ in 2020. She rose to fame with her videos on TikTok which had a huge following.
