Sonam Bajwa is candid about why she is more than just a pretty face.
Sonam Bajwa shared how she changed the perception of people about herself by delivering two hit films in 2019.
The Instagram handle of Punjabi heartthrob, Sonam Bajwa is a treat for her fans. She often shares her stunning photos online, leaving netizens completely in awe. Not only this, Sonam is also a brilliant actress who has proved herself through hit films like Guddiyan Patole and Ardb Mutiyaran. She recently talked about the ‘pretty face’ tag that was given to her and how she changed that perception about herself.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Sonam Bajwa shared, “I want to do a lot as an actor, I haven’t been offered that kind of script. If I look back at my journey, a lot of people thought ‘she’s just a pretty face, she can’t even act.’ Industry people felt and said so. I prayed with all my heart and asked God to give me a film that would focus people’s attention on my performance from the way I look and it happened. I did Guddiyan Patole, Ardb Mutiyaran in 2019. Both the films were commercially successful and people appreciated my work. These were women oriented films. It changed the direction of cinema in Punjab and then I got the respect I really wanted as an actor.
She said, “From there, I have a lot to do. With time people get to know about your real self. Because I don’t have any agenda that I want to show this or that. I want to do acting all my life. Kuburati kaise bante rahaiye (How long will beauty last?) In our industry, the clock is ticking on women a lot faster than men.”
On the work front, Sonam participated in the Femina Miss India contest in 2012. He started his acting career in 2013 with the Punjabi film Best of Luck. She played the leading lady in the 2014 film Punjab 1984 and won the PTC Punjabi Film Award for Best Actress in 2020 for Ardb Mutiyaran. She has also appeared in the Tamil romantic comedy Kappal in 2014.
The actress recently joined Akshay Kumar, Disha Patani, Mouni Roy and Nora Fatehi For ‘The Entertainers’ Tour in the US. Next she has ‘Carry On Jatta 3’ opposite Gippy Grewal in the pipeline. The film is directed by Smeep Kang and produced by Humble Motion Pictures. It is a sequel to Carry On Jatta 2 and also stars Gurpreet Ghuggi, Binnu Dhillon, Nasir Chinyoti, Jaswinder Bhalla.
