Tokyo : Sony Group Corp. said on Thursday that it is Microsoft Corp. expects to ensure that if Microsoft completes its proposed acquisition of Activision, Activision Blizzard Inc. The games are available on non-Microsoft videogame platforms.
“We expect Microsoft to abide by the contractual agreements and continue to ensure that Activision Games is multiplatform,” a Sony spokesperson said on Thursday.
Activision supplies some of the most popular games for Sony’s PlayStation game console, including the Call of Duty series. After Microsoft announced its acquisition plan on Tuesday, some analysts raised the possibility that Activision games could be available exclusively for Microsoft’s own Xbox console and its subscription videogame services in the future.
Microsoft gaming chief Phil Spencer mentioned other platforms in a press release Tuesday, but did not detail Microsoft’s plans. “Activision Blizzard games are enjoyed on a variety of platforms and we plan to continue to support those communities going forward,” he said.
