  • Had Ganguly played, he would have been reunited with his trusted lieutenants
  • Sourav Ganguly had earlier said that he is very excited for the game
  • World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan was supposed to lead the opposition

Sourav Ganguly’s return to the Eden Gardens has been postponed after the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) pulled out of the Legends League on Saturday, 3 September, citing personal reasons.

Fans in Kolkata had been waiting for ten years to see local hero Ganguly on the field once again, but according to sources, that is not happening now. Sources in the know told India Today that Ganguly will not take part in a one-off game in the Legends League, where the Indian was due to face the World XI led by Maharaja Eoin Morgan.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly was scheduled to play a match at the Eden Gardens on the occasion of the Amrit Maha Utsav of Azadi. This match is to be played against India Maharaja vs World XI at Eden on 16 September.

People were also ready to witness the reunion of former cricketers. Ganguly was very excited about this match because at one time Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh played under his captaincy. But this time the townspeople will have to be in a bit of despair because if the rest of the former players also play, Sourav may not be seen playing the game.

According to sources, Sourav Ganguly has withdrawn from the game citing personal reasons. The project stars Sourav Ganguly’s childhood friend Sanjay Das in the lead role. With Ganguly out of the game, the chances of generating huge interest will be dented. Many people would have once again entered the field to see Sourav’s batting and aggressive captaincy, which may not happen again.
