Redmond, a former Norwich City forward who has spent the past six years at St Mary’s and scored 30 goals with 27 assists in more than 200 appearances for the Saints, said the 28-year-old’s switch is yet to be officially finalised.

“It’s a good change for him,” Hasenhuetl told reporters ahead of Saturday’s league match against Brentford.

“Six years later, maybe it was time for him to come up with something new. We had a great time together… almost four years with very, very good moments, some not so good, but I had a very good relationship with him till the end.

“He showed his professionalism in moments like these and I’m really looking forward to seeing him score there and play good games. We all move on, we go through changes in life and it’s a big deal for him,” he said. There is change, but … he made a good choice.”

The move would see Redmond joining Everton midfielder Dele Alli, who has moved to Besiktas on loan for the season.

Southampton are 12th on the table this season after two wins, one draw and three losses, while Brentford are four places above them with nine points.

Hasenhuetl said he was delighted to have players recovering for the match after an illness problem in the squad during the week, in which both Mohamed Elinoussi and Ibrahima Diallo were sidelined.

“But today they are back on the pitch so the group is now complete with only Romeo Lavia and Tino Livramento with injuries,” said Hasenhuetl.
