singer and music director SP Balasubramaniam He was posthumously awarded the Padma Bhushan at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday morning for his contribution to the world of art. The award was received by the late singer’s son SP Charan. Singer KS Chitra, with whom SP Balasubramaniam sang several duets, received the Padma Bhushan. Padma Awards for the year 2020 and 2021 presented by President Ram Nath Kovind In four batches over two days. SP Balasubramaniam, or SPB as he was known to fans and colleagues, died in September last year after contracting COVID-19. He was 74 years old. SPB, beloved for his melodious voice, was also an actor and film producer. His son SP Charan is a singer and producer.
SP Balasubramaniam received Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2011. He also won six National Awards apart from other government honors and film industry awards.

SP Balasubramaniam sang more than 40,000 songs in 16 languages in his illustrious and illustrious career. He collaborated with many musicians, but was best known for his collaborations with Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman. The actors to whom his voice was most associated were Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan in the south and Salman Khan in Bollywood.
