The BCCI selectors on Wednesday (August 28) included Jammu-born Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Umran Malik as well as Mumbai Indians’ most successful IPL 2022 cricketer Tilak Verma in the India A squad for the New Zealand series. Other notable names picked in the team are Rajat Patidar, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sarfaraz Khan. While Rajat has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit, he had a decent season with RCB in IPL 2022. Ruturaj has also been scoring a decent amount of runs and is a clear pick, while Sarfaraz Khan has had a stellar run in the Ranji Trophy season with Mumbai. Helped them reach the finals this year.
New Zealand A will tour India for three four-day matches and as many one-day matches. Red ball matches will be held in Bangalore and Hubli. The teams for the white ball game to be played in Chennai will be announced later.
Shubman Gill has not been picked for the India A series vs New Zealand, which has left many stunned. But that is because he has signed for English county side Glamorgan and will play for them for the rest of the season.
