Winter has already arrived in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, and Twitter can’t seem to get over its snow-capped grandeur. Over the past few days, netizens have been uploading pictures of the ancient landscape of the city. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav shared pictures of Srinagar railway station. The photos show a calm and white environment created by active snowfall in the valley for the last three days. Sharing the pictures of the station, the minister wrote famous lines written by poet Amir Khusro in the caption. The lines spoken by the poet in awe of the magnificence of the Kashmir Valley are, “Gar firdous bar rue zami ast, hami asto hami asto hami ast (If there is heaven on earth, it is here, it is here, it is here).”

Earlier this week, areas in the north received fresh snow. The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained inaccessible for three days on Tuesday for smooth traffic flow. The national highway was blocked due to heavy snowfall and unprecedented landslides and hijacking of the tarmac. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for the Kashmir Valley on Friday, indicating the possibility of very heavy snowfall with the possibility of an avalanche. As a result, most flight operations were delayed or terminated after the alert was issued in the state.
