Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday visited the state control room in Chennai and interacted virtually with the students of Tamil Nadu stranded in Ukraine.
He assured them that the state government was taking steps to rescue them and advised them to stay safe, an official release said.
Mr Stalin questioned Mouni Sujitha of Erode, Antony of Tiruchi and Navneeta Sriram of Thoothukudi about the situation in Ukraine.
Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudi, Health Minister Mr. Subramaniam, Public Secretary D. Jagannathan, Commissioner for Rehabilitation and Welfare of Non-Resident Tamils Jacintha Lazarus and senior officials were present.
Mr Stalin had written to Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar urging him to take steps to expel Tamil Nadu students from Ukraine, where Russia has launched a “special military operation”.
The state government has appointed Ms. Lazarus as the nodal officer for coordination by opening a helpline. Mr Stalin has also announced that the state will bear the travel expenses to be incurred by these students.
