Stalker 2 developer withdraws NFT plan after gamers’ decree move

Shortly after announcing that they would introduce an NFT involving Stalker 2: Hearts of Chernobyl, the developers of the upcoming post-apocalyptic game have stated that they were abandoning the plan “after receiving feedback” from the public. “The interests of our fans and players are a top priority for the team,” the company said. The first-person shooter game is being developed and published by GSC Game World and is set for release on Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X/S in April 2022. GSC Game World has announced that it will use blockchain technology to inspire the community to own a piece of the game.

The developers of Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl, the sequel to 2009 cult hit Stalker: Call of Pripyat, announced on Wednesday that it would partner with NFT platform DMarket on digital goods. One of the NFTs they planned to introduce was allowing the boss to become a “metahuman”, which meant that he would be turned into a non-player character (NPC) in the game.

The update came as many gamers did not support the idea and expressed their disappointment by creating memes on Twitter and Reddit. Some fans have even said that they won’t buy stalker 2, GSC immediately clarified but fans refused to buy it.

The setback against the move may be partly because the company did not elaborate on why it wanted to launch the popular game-linked NFTs in the first place. In addition, there were environmental concerns as GSC did not specify which blockchain it would use. Some blockchains use more energy than others but most people are unable to differentiate between them.

although initial plan To create a “Metahuman” that involves giving NFT buyers names and nicknames for their in-game characters. These NPCs would then be allowed to make cameos as “bartender, comrade or enemy”.

GSC Game World responded on Thursday afternoon with a defensive, all-caps rebuttal that would be quickly retracted. “GSC Game World is an independent game development studio,” it began, “like all other devs, we need two main resources: time and money.” Stalker 2 was originally announced in 2010 and was to be released in 2012. But it has not been able to release the game till now due to some reason or the other. Now it is scheduled to release on April 28, 2022.
