Krishnagiri: A Class twelfth The student committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room near Uthankarai here on Saturday night. Police say that the reason for the suicide is yet to be ascertained.
The Uthankarai police identified the deceased as A. as it is Gopalakrishnan, 17, Changam K in Tiruvannamalai district. A student of the government school in Uthankarai, he was staying in a government hostel for the backward class students of the town.
A police officer said 50 students were staying in the hostel and 36 of them had gone to their homes for the weekend.
“After dinner, Gopalakrishnan went to his room and locked him from inside. Her roommates came late and knocked on the door for a few minutes. With no response, they looked at the gap in the door and found Gopalakrishnan hanging from the ceiling of the room,” the official said.
The students immediately informed the hostel warden and they called the Uthankarai police, who ransacked the room and recovered the body.
