Student injured after college bus collided with tree near Satturu

O. A total of 26 people, including girl students of an arts and science college here, were injured when a college bus rammed into a roadside tree in Mettupatti on Friday.

Police said that four students sitting in the front part of the bus suffered fractures.

The injured have been admitted to the government hospital here.

Police said the bus was taking students to the college from Elayirampannai. O. While proceeding near Mettupatti, Ganapathy (60), the driver of Thiruvengadam, lost control of the vehicle due to a technical issue and the bus rammed into a neem tree on the roadside at around 9.15 am.

The left front side of the bus was badly damaged.

Before the fire brigade and rescue service personnel from Sattur, Station Fire Officer S. Kathiresan, the local people helped the students to get out of the bus.

There were more than 60 people in the bus.

Meanwhile, Revenue Minister KKSSR Ramachandran met an injured student admitted to a private hospital in Madurai.

The minister said she was the only person who was seriously injured in the accident, but she was out of danger.

Shri Ramachandran said that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is deeply concerned about the safety of the girl students, saying the chief minister had appointed him to investigate them.

He said that the government would provide all possible help to the injured.

When asked, he said that the cause of the accident is under investigation – be it a technical fault or human error.

Collector, S. Anish Shekhar (Madurai) and J. Meghnath Reddy (Virudhunagar) accompanied the minister.
