‘The state government has not yet decided to reopen schools for classes VI to VIII’

As for the allegation that private schools did not adequately report COVID-19 cases to the authorities, Mr Mahesh Poyyamozhi said contracting the virus was “not a crime” and that private schools should alert the School Education Department. should be done, even if there is only one case. got to know. All schools should follow the standard operating procedure, the minister said.

Mr Poyyamozhi said the government is yet to take a decision on reopening schools for classes VI-VIII, and it will consider all factors before taking a decision.

Schools expressed concern

According to a CII release, representatives of private schools in Coimbatore district highlighted the difficulties in conducting online classes and issues such as physical education for children and regulatory approvals for schools. Shri Mahesh Poyyamozhi said that these issues are under the consideration of the Government and assured them that his department would help in removing the hurdles faced by the schools.

The Minister also urged the private schools to provide adequate facilities to the children of rural areas and ensure inclusion in the enrollment of students including students with special needs.
