After the case of suspected suicide of 9 members of the same family in Sangli, Maharashtra came to light, the fear of deaths in Delhi’s Burari is haunting us. Police said the absence of any external injury indicated it was a suicide pact.
The bodies were found at the homes of two brothers located 1.5 km away in Mhaisal village in western Maharashtra district, more than 350 km from state capital Mumbai. 6 bodies were recovered from the first house and 3 from the second.
What is the Burari death case?
These incidents remind us of the heart-wrenching incident of 2018, in which 11 members of the Chundwat family were mass suicided in Delhi’s Burari area. All were found inside the house blindfolded, hands and feet tied.
Initially, the police registered a murder case, but subsequent investigation and recovery of registers, in which a set of rituals were to be followed, gave a new dimension to the case. To solve the case, the police had to investigate the occult, psychology, superstition and the latest investigative techniques.
One of the forensic officers who visited the spot at the time said that he was horrified to see so many bodies hanging at the same time.
The documentary, titled ‘House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths’, was released on Netflix last year, which aimed to piece together the various developments in the case.

Ashok Virkar, deputy superintendent of police (Miraj division), said that indicating that financial issues could lead to suspicious suicides, Ashok Virkar said Indian Express“We have found what appears to be a suicide note. The nine deceased belong to the families of two brothers – a vet and a teacher – based in Mhaisal. All early clues point to the deaths being a suicide. result of the agreement.”
He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the duo had taken huge loans from different people.
The police also said that there are no signs of any external injury and hence, it is suspected that the death was caused by poison. Investigation has been started.
