The Supreme Court on Thursday paved the way for the release of a Hindi film starring Amitabh Bachchan cluster On May 6, by staying the order of the Telangana High Court on Over the Top (OTT) platforms, which had banned its exhibition on OTT platforms.

A bench of Justices Indira Banerjee and AS Bopanna observed that the High Court had overlooked the principles relating to grant of interim relief in such cases and observed that prima facie, the impugned order was against the balance of convenience.

“The impugned order is stayed. The SLP (Special Leave Petition) is listed for final disposal on next Friday (May 13),” the bench said.

On Wednesday, a bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana had agreed to list the plea of ​​producer, T-Series, against the High Court order banning the release of the film on OTT.

It was urged that the film, which had earlier released in theaters on March 4, is about to release on the OTT platform and the status quo order of the High Court is coming in between.
