Surat: The Special Court for Protection of Children for Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act on Tuesday awarded death sentence to the convict. Guddu Yadav (35) For raping and murdering a two-year-old minor girl in Pandesara area.
On Monday, the local court delivered the verdict in a record time of 21 days after the chargesheet was filed. The court has ordered compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the victim’s family.
The court of POCSO Act Special Judge PS Kala convicted Yadav and sentenced him to death. Earlier, the court completed the hearing within five days and examined 42 witnesses. In this case, the police had filed a 264-page chargesheet on November 15, within seven days of the arrest of the culprit.
The minor was abducted, raped and murdered on November 4 and her body was found on November 7. The next day, after his identity was developed on the basis of CCTV footage, Yadav was arrested by the police.
“In a record time, the decision has been announced. The apex courts, government and police are extremely concerned with such crimes and deal strictly with each and every case. Preventing such crime is our priority but if it happens then our Efforts will be made to ensure that justice is delivered at the earliest, the city police commissioner said. Ajay Tomri,
Police conducted various important scientific tests like GAIT analysis, DNA profiling, viscera test and CCTV footage analysis in a short span of time. The police also undertook reconstruction of the offense under Section 164 of CrPC, trial identification parade and recording of statements of witnesses.
The police examined footage of over 500 CCTV cameras in the area to get clues and a team of over 200 police joined the investigation when initially the abduction of the minor was reported.
The counsel for the district government said, “The prosecution argued that this is the rarest of the rare cases and why the death penalty should be awarded. It was a heinous crime and the sentence was announced by the court on the basis of strong scientific evidence.” Nayan Sukhadwala,
