Delhi University Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh has said that the syllabus for first year students under the four-year undergraduate program will be ready in two-three months.
The Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) prepared under the National Policy on Education (NEP) was approved by the executive council of the university on February 11.
“Committees have been formed. They are working on the syllabus and it will be ready in two-three months before the academic session 2022-23 starts.
The Vice Chancellor said that the students admitted to DU through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) route will study the new syllabus.
UGCF incorporates two features of NEP, multidisciplinary approach and Multiple Entry and Exit Scheme (MEES).
Under MEES, students can exit with a degree at the end of an academic year. According to the draft, students must earn a total of 176 credits at the end of the fourth year of their bachelor’s degree. They are required to earn a minimum of 50 percent credit in a subject to obtain a degree with a major in that subject.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) draft states that students must earn 160 to 176 credits for a four-year degree with honors/thesis.
What will be the criteria for another university student who wants to go to DU?
“Our framework states that a student will need 176 credits for the degree. A student must earn additional credits. We will award degrees with only 176 credits,” he said.
