Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services Palanivel Thiaga Rajan on Monday (April 21, 2025) reiterated that his department was being allocated less funds. He also termed it “unusual” that TIDEL parks and neo TIDEL parks were functioning under the Industries Department, and not the IT Department.

Responding to a request in the Assembly, made by AIADMK’s Pon. Jayaseelan (Gudalur) in the Assembly, who sought an IT park in his constituency, Mr. Rajan said: “Even during this ongoing session, I had pointed to the issues in my department. Even the funds allocated [to his department] are less.”

He said that, unlike in other States, not all IT parks were functioning under the Information Technology and Digital Services Department — only some were under its control. TIDEL and neo TIDEL parks were functioning under the Industries, Investment Promotion, and Commerce Department, he pointed out.

“Though this is an unusual situation, that has been the case in Tamil Nadu for the past 20 years. So, if you ask those who have the funds, talent, and authority, I think they will do it. We don’t have them,” Mr. Rajan told the MLA.

Speaker M. Appavu, however, pressed the bell at this point to say: “The Minister has to discuss this internally and with the Chief Minister and then decide. It would be better to give positive replies.”
