“It was a great innings from Virat… One of the best I’ve ever played for India. The opening match of the World Cup and that too against Pakistan is never easy and it was special to play that innings in front of huge crowds,” Vengsarkar told IANS in a telephonic interview.

Asked what India could have done better in that game, the 66-year-old said that it was a close game, so he cannot reveal much.

“It was a close game. India did very well to restrict Pakistan around 160 and the partnership between Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli during the run chase was very important as the Pakistan team has very good bowling.

The entire cricket fraternity is still in awe of Virat’s match-winning innings against Pakistan and the video of the former India captain hitting a six against Haris Rauf in the 19th over has become a hit on social media.

Notably, Virat had also said that his innings at the prestigious MCG was his best T20I innings.

“To this day I have always said that against Australia at Mohali was my best innings: I scored 82 off 52 (51). Today I scored 82 off 53. So they are exactly the same innings, but I think today I I would count it higher because of the magnitude and condition of the game,” he said in a post-match presentation.
